Places of Interest

RAMSAI WILDLIFE

Sited in the heart of dense forest of Dooars region is the sojourn for nature lover called Ramsai. Ramsai is a quaint forest village located at a distance of 25km from Maynaguri in the Jalpaiguri district on the Eastern side of Gorumara National Park. Gorumara National Park is known for its astounding number of Asiatic one-horned Rhino. Endowed with abundance of flora and fauna, Ramsai has gained its prominence in the field of Dooars Tourism. Tourists are attracted towards this quaint forest village Ramsai for its serene ambiance and scenic beauty.
Enclosed by lush tea garden and dense semi-tropical forest, the journey towards Ramsai is filled with the pictorial view of changing landscape. The roads leading toward Ramsai take the tourists through the paddy field towards the land dotted with tall Sal trees midst the rolling meadow of lavish tea garden. The view of sparkling river stream meandering through the thick forest enclosing Ramsai is truly a glorious sight to be adorned after reaching Ramsai. Located at the periphery of Gorumara National Park sighting of wild animals is a frequent occurrence in Ramsai. Tourists who want to spend some quality time in the core of jungle can lodge in the Ramsai Rhino Camp where they can get the true essence of wilderness.

BATESHWAR TEMPLE
Even scholars have failed to identify the period in which it was established. Since a huge tree (?? ???)exists in the vicinity this temple got its name ,Bateshwar (???????) from it. The very pattern of temple structure gives new impetus for scholars who indulged themselves to the studies of these temples.
Like Jatileshwar temple it also had the same pattern Mandapa (pillered assembly hall), Garbhagriha (a rectangular cella, the core body), Antarala (a small vestibule). This particular temple pattern is attributed to finial style or Shikhara reeti. On the other hand it had fine round relief on the walls which makes us to think of mighty works patronized by Ahom kings. So this is a fine example of acculturation of two different style of architecture one is fundamentally Gupta culture and the other one is south-east Asian pattern which made a link between temples of this region with temples of Myanmar, Thailand.

JATILESWAR TEMPLE

Build around the year 320 AD to 600 AD by the Gupta rulers, Jatileswar temple is one of the oldest temple in the North Bengal Region. It is located just about 15 KM away from Mayhnaguri Town. The temple holds lots of historical significance. The temple is dedicated to the Lord shiva as Baba Jatileswar.and attracts thousands of pilgrims and tourists every year. Being around 1000 years old , the temple is truly epitome of Inida's medieval architectural distiction.
The temple was built using stones & clay bricks and sculpted with the figure of several Hindu Gods in the walls.

JALPESH TEMPLE

Jalpesh Temple was founded by Bisu Singh of Cooch Behar in A.D. 1524. His son, Maharaja Narayan, rebuilt the temple in A.D. 1563. Pran Narayan in turn rebuilt the temple in A.D. 1663.
The Jalpesh Temple is approximately 3 kilometres from away Mainaguri 26°31′32″N 88°52′1″E, and is dedicated to Lord Jalpeshwar (Siva). The temple was built in a style akin to Islamic architecture. Inside the temple, there is a Shivling called 'Anadi'. Mahashivaratri is the main festival celebrated in this temple, which is 126 feet high and 120 feet wide. Pilgrims come during Sravani Mela in July–August and during the fair of Jalpesh Mela in February–March to offer special puja to Siva. After worshipping, devotees, whose number reach approximately 1.2 million, collect water from River Teesta and walk barefoot 15 kilometres to the temple.
